Welcome to the fourth Monday Mood Booster post! Mondays are difficult for many reasons and sometimes we need a little pick-me-up. This series will run the first Monday of each month and highlight something that we love that helps us beat the Monday blues.
The beach. Ahhh the beach. Just hearing the word puts you at ease and makes you smile, doesn’t it? Both Lily and I love the beach. We have a tradition of going with our girlfriends as often as possible during the summer. We sunbathe (while wearing sunscreen. It’s 2017. No one should be out in the sun without protection). We swim. We pack a picnic lunch. And we play cards. It is one of the most leisurely ways to spend a day.
In Ontario, our summers are short, but wonderful. There are few things better in life then being by the lake. When I go on vacation down south, I relish the opportunity to be by the water. There is something so soothing about being near water and hearing the waves.
The beach is not for everyone, but if you are as big a fan of it as we are then you already know all the physical and mental health benefits it can provide. Swimming is a great total body workout. Spending quality time with friends and family can help you feel less stressed. And being outside in nature is a great way to calm and recentre yourself
Obviously, you can’t go to the beach every Monday. But you can reflect back to the last time you were there. Or you could listen to a calming wave sound track. Or you could get a beautiful photo of a beach to have at your desk. Any reminder of the beach can help you feel calm and at ease.
